Brands We Love: Lulu Guinness

If you like bold and retro eyewear, then Lulu Guinness® is the designer for you.

The brand was founded by Lucinda “Lulu” Guinness in 1989. She began her collection with designer handbags to give working women an alternative to a man’s briefcase. In addition to many forms of bags, she designs an array of fashion accessories, such as umbrellas, keychains, shoes, and scarves.

Lulu’s edgy and unconventional style is apparent in her daring, yet wearable line of women’s glasses. Her frames are developed and distributed by Tura Inc., an optical design company in New York City. According to Tura, Lulu “lives by the motto of her hero, … fashion designer Elsa Schiaparelli, ‘Dare to be different.’”

Lulu Guinness® glasses include her trademark metal red lips emblem on the inside temple piece. It is no surprise considering Lulu always wears red lipstick and is well-known for her clutch handbag in the shape of a pair of lips. Although the frame collection highlights vintage silhouettes, it also features the unmistakable lips.

Other signature features include sophisticated glitter details that make the eyewear pop like a piece of jewelry. Lulu’s take on bold femininity is apparent in classic prints of black, white, and red colors. The diagonal stripe and “dogtooth” patterns are a staple. Dogtooth is similar to the classic black and white houndstooth print, but with a touch of uniqueness.
